October 13, 2024

Dear Parents,

The JCPS District is closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous People’s Day.
These free online reading, writing, and mathematics remedial programs are a valuable resource for every student and parent. They are designed to accelerate our scholars' mastery of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards or allow them to get ahead by learning skills that have yet to be taught in class.   These resources adjust to the user’s ability level, ensuring a personalized learning experience.

Instead of students strolling through social media or playing video games, we encourage you to guide your child to use the grade level programs to accelerate their learning. Your support is crucial in helping students build a strong foundation, which will enable them to achieve at higher levels and be admitted to selective programs well into college.

We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring doors close firmly behind you as you enter and exit the schools. Your vigilance contributes to the safety of our school community.  Thank you, and enjoy the long weekend.

Respectfully,
Dr. Fernandez

October 6, 2024

Dear Parents

Each year during the month of October, New Jersey schools participate in “Respect Week,” with activities that highlight the importance of safe and respectful relationships with classmates, the school community, and ourselves. The District JCPS will celebrate Respect Week with character education this week. The goal is to help students develop strategies to be compassionate, considerate, and caring individuals in and out of school.

Teachers may have shared or will be sharing progress reports this week. The progress report provides valuable information for parents to use and communicate with teachers to reinforce areas where students are not mastering grade level standards. Students are expected to meet specific standards each academic year to prepare for the following school year. The first marking period is the best time to work collaboratively.

The New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) will be administered October 7-10 to our seniors who still need to take it or those who need to retake it to satisfy high school assessment requirements. Schools will provide make-up assessments the following week. Please note that all schools will follow their regular schedule.
Regular school attendance is necessary for academic success.

Sincerely,
Dr. Fernandez

September 29, 2024

Good evening, Parents and Staff,

This week, our Jewish community celebrates Rosh Hashanah. As you celebrate the New Year, may you be surrounded by love, prosperity, and the warmth of family and friends.

Schools will close for students on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, so teachers and administrators can participate in professional development opportunities.

The district is hosting parent workshops for the Mathematics and Social Studies curriculum. The seminar for grades six through twelfth-grade parents is scheduled for October 5. Please visit the district website to register.

While social media may offer some benefits, there are ample indicators that social media can also pose a risk of harm to the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. Research suggests that smartphone use may have fueled a crisis ranging from dwindling attention to hindering social-emotional development. Please encourage your children to turn off their phones in school and limit their use of social media at home.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our scholars reach their highest potential.

Sincerely,
Dr. Fernandez

                                                                                                                                                      September 8, 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We had a fantastic start to the 2023-2024 school year.  Students, educators, and parents were all smiling as I visited schools and even the weather cooperated. I want to thank the custodial and maintenance workers who got the schools ready, the school administrators for their diligence, and the teachers and support staff who prepared their classrooms, created lessons and welcomed the students.

This week, we observe Patriot Day on September 11th to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 victims who lost their lives in the terroristic attacks on the World Trade Towers, the Pentagon, and Flight 93. The day recognizes the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and the resilience of the American people in the face of such a tragedy.

We invite you to visit your child’s school the following week. All parents are invited to visit the elementary school on September 17, Middle School parents on September 18, and High School parents on September 19.

Parents and guardians, please complete the lunch applications even if you think you may not be eligible. The applications also help families with the summer EBT cards and help the district receive accurate Federal funding.

Thank you.

Dr. Fernandez
